Is Breakfast/ Lunch provided by the school?
We are a satellite program of the Department of Education. Breakfast and Lunch is provided to every student for free, regardless of family income. Parents are required to fill out Department of Education meal forms at the start of each school year.
What are the admissions requirements?
Interested parents should call the Main Office at 718-341-1991 x 231 to schedule an appointment for an Open House. For more details, please see the Admissions page.
Do CSE students wear uniforms?
Uniforms are mandatory for all of our students.
What are the general class sizes?
Our class sizes vary between 10 – 20 students, depending on the subject matter.
Are there field trips for the students?
Yes. All grades attend at least 4 trips per school year. Parents are welcome to attend, based on space availability.
Are parents invited to any student performance or activity?
Throughout the year, the school coordinates a number of performances/activities. Each grade performs at their end of year ceremony. CSE students also put on a host of different programs for parents and CCGC students for occasions such as our Native American Heritage celebration and Black History celebration. In addition, we have an annual music recital, drama and dance performances, talent shows and many more.
Is there a fundraising commitment for CSE parents?
Parents are required to participate in 2-3 fundraising events during the year which vary in type. For parents who are unable to participate, a monetary payment will be accepted instead.
Does CSE provide bus transportation for students?
CSE does have bus service for our students, provided through the Department of Education’s Office of Pupil Transportation. There are a number of bus stops in our neighboring communities, for both morning pick-up and afternoon drop-off. We also provide metro cards for students who commute via public transportation. Long Island students are eligible to receive busing through their home district.
Is CSE licensed by any governmental agency?
We are chartered by the State Education Department Non-Public School Division.
Does CSE close for the same holidays as public school?
In general, we follow the Department of Education’s calendar in regards to national holidays, winter recess and spring break. Otherwise, we do not close for some of the smaller holidays recognized by the DOE.
Is there a Parent Group Association?
CSE’s Parent Group Association meets monthly except September, December and June. They arrange special activities throughout the year for both students and parents.
